Below is a summary of these rights to ensure that every resident is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness during their stay.
1. Right to Dignity, Respect, and Privacy
- Every resident has the right to be treated with respect and dignity, free from neglect, abuse, or exploitation.
- Residents have the right to privacy in their personal care and medical treatment, as well as the confidentiality of their personal and medical records.
- Residents have the right to make personal decisions about their daily lives, including clothing, activities, and friendships, to the extent of their abilities.
2. Right to Receive Quality Care
- Residents have the right to receive appropriate care, including medical and personal care services, in accordance with their needs and preferences.
- Residents have the right to be informed of any changes to their care plan and to participate in decisions regarding their care.
- Residents are entitled to be cared for in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment that promotes their well-being.
3. Right to Information
- Residents have the right to be fully informed about the services available at D & G Guest Home, including their cost, the rules governing their stay, and their rights and responsibilities.
- Residents have the right to receive timely and accurate information about their health status, including access to their personal records.
- Residents have the right to know the name, occupation, and responsibilities of the staff providing care to them.
4. Right to Participate in Care Decisions
- Residents have the right to participate in the development and revision of their individualized care plan and to make informed decisions about their treatment, care, and services.
- Residents have the right to refuse treatment, medication, or services and be informed of the potential consequences of such refusal.
- Residents have the right to designate a legal representative or healthcare agent to make decisions on their behalf if they are unable to do so.
5. Right to Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Restraint
- Residents have the right to be free from physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse.
- Residents have the right to be free from neglect, exploitation, and unnecessary physical or chemical restraints unless necessary for medical treatment and authorized by a healthcare professional.
6. Right to Manage Financial Affairs
- Residents have the right to manage their own finances or choose a representative to manage their finances for them.
- If the facility assists in managing residents’ funds, residents have the right to receive a full accounting of their funds and how they are being managed.
7. Right to Access and Communication
- Residents have the right to receive visitors of their choosing and to have private communications with friends, family, or legal counsel, subject to reasonable restrictions for safety and privacy.
- Residents have the right to send and receive mail or other communications without interference or censorship.
- Residents have the right to access telephones, internet, and other communication devices, subject to availability.
8. Right to Freedom of Expression and Religion
- Residents have the right to express their cultural, religious, and political beliefs, practices, and preferences without interference or discrimination.
- Residents have the right to participate in or refuse any religious activities offered by the facility.
9. Right to File Complaints and Grievances
- Residents have the right to voice complaints or concerns about their care or treatment without fear of retaliation or discrimination.
- Residents have the right to a timely and fair resolution of their complaints, and the facility is required to provide information on how to file grievances with the appropriate state or federal agencies.
10. Right to Personal Possessions
- Residents have the right to keep and use personal possessions, including clothing and furnishings, unless such items interfere with the safety or health of other residents.
- The facility must ensure that residents’ personal possessions are treated with care and respect.
11. Right to Discharge and Transfer
- Residents have the right to receive written notice before being discharged or transferred to another facility, except in cases of emergency.
- Residents have the right to appeal the decision to discharge or transfer and to receive assistance in finding alternative accommodation if needed.
12. Right to Freedom from Discrimination
- Residents have the right to receive care and services without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, disability, marital status, or sexual orientation.
13. Right to Participate in Activities
- Residents have the right to participate in social, recreational, and cultural activities within the facility.
- Residents have the right to engage in activities outside the facility if it is safe to do so, and they are physically able.
